Document Sharing
Custom Categories for Groups | Category Display | Multiple Document Downloads | Share Status | Document Edit
.NExT includes a number of improvements to the Document Sharing tool area. Of Note, the default sort order of the uploaded document list is by Date/Time, with most recent uploaded document now first (the new sort order is opposite of legacy).
Custom Categories for Groups
In the earlier platform, a group-specific Document Sharing category was always created when a new group was created, however instructors were unable to create custom categories for particular groups. In .NExT, a group-specific category will still be created at the same time that a group is created, but instructors will also be able to create special or custom Document Sharing categories and assign them only to particular groups.
Category Display
For ease of navigation, links to all Categories (group-specific and general) will display as a list on the main Document Sharing page allowing users to see all categories available to them at once and enter one by clicking on it. As with the change to the threaded discussion topics list, the lists of Categories in Document Sharing are no longer displayed as pull down menus, as they were in the previous platform.
Multiple Document Downloads
Users can select multiple documents for simultaneous download by clicking the File Name/Description check box (for all documents) or by individually selecting the checkboxes next to specific documents they want to download. Once the desired documents are selected, the user can then click on the Download Documents link and the user will be prompted to specify a location on the local machine for saving the selected files.
Share Status
Share status will be specified as Entire Class or Instructor Only instead of Yes/No as in the earlier version of the platform. The default setting is Instructor Only.
Document Edit
Instructors, course builders, and admin role types have access to the Edit link next to each document posted. In .NExT, the Edit area allows them to replace the current document with a new document. This provides flexibility to the user so they don't have to upload a new document and delete the old document. Instructors can also change the owner's name of a document in the edit area. This is useful for cases where a non-instructor (i.e. course builder) uploaded the document originally, but the instructor prefers their own name to be posted as the document owner.
